Dearest
friends, David w Lewis left this world on march 23 at 1150 pm. He fought a year long battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
He did not give up till the last breath. If you knew him you know this is Dave. He was a silent sufferer and always on top
of the reality of the disease. He will be greatly missed by the girls, the grandchildren and me. He had a memorable send off.
At the viewing we showed pictures and played music while 224 pictures passed by. Songs like “Reach Out” by the
four Tops, “Have I told you lately that I love you?, “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and a lot more I can’t
think of right now. I had him dressed in Camouflage due to his love of the outdoors with hunting, fishing, dove hunting, and
mostly turkey hunting. He only wore a suit three times in his life. His two daughter’s weddings and his granddaughter’s
funeral. I needed to see him happy and that’s when he was most happy-hunting. On the second day, Saturday the 28th
we had a funeral mass replete with a beautiful homily by his favorite Son-in-law, John Zink, Marcia’s husband. The gifts
were brought up by my grandson’s. And what a beautiful sight that was! We cried a lot. We had bagpipes playing “Amazing
Grace” and Danny Boy” –he wanted bagpipes. It was so lifting and so sad at the same time. My sister Kathy
came with her hubby, My two brothers came, one with his wife Linda and two brothers Richard and one Marty. No one from Dave’s
side came. His sister and brother came about 3 weeks ago. The other members-who knows what makes people tick. Not even a phone
call. Very sad for me and the girls. We had to bury him on the third day because of all the rain. They played taps and gave
me a flag. It was very sad. One of the guys brought a turkey call and we asked him to bring it and play it after taps. It
was great and like I said earlier what a send off.
